Cybersecurity Company Skybox Appoints New Chief Technology Officer

The company raised $150 million in equity funding last month

San Jose, California-headquartered Skybox Security Inc. appointed Ron Davidson as its chief technology officer, the company announced Monday. Mr. Davidson will also serve as Skybox's vice president of research and development.

Established in 2002, Skybox's cybersecurity software helps companies and organizations manage cybersecurity by identifying system vulnerabilities, detecting and responding to threats, and safeguarding networks. The company counts as clients government agencies like the U.S. Department of Energy, and large companies such as BlueCross Blue Shield, Johnson & Johnson, and Mercedes Benz.

A graduate of IDF unit 8200, the Israeli equivalent of the NSA, Mr. Davidson previously served as as senior director of security research and analytic for Cisco's video security business, and also established and led the first threat intelligence program of network and cloud security provider Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.

Mr. Davidson will lead Skybox’s long-term technology vision, said the company, focusing on product development in the areas of attack surface visibility, vulnerability and threat management, and firewall and security policy management.

"Ron has an incredible track record of building R&D teams that pioneer innovations in cybersecurity,” said Skybox CEO Gidi Cohen. “More than 50% of the cybersecurity startups in Israel are founded by individuals who have worked on Ron’s teams.”

In October Skybox raised $150 million from Luxembourg-headquartered private equity firm CVC Capital Partners and London-headquartered Pantheon Ventures LLP, bringing the company's total equity funding to $288 million. Skybox said part of the recent funding will be used for further research and development.
