Flex Opens New Manufacturing Center in Israel

Electronics manufacturer Flex Ltd., formerly known as Flextronics International Ltd., is opening a new production facility in Israel. The cornerstone ceremony for the new center was held Sunday in an industry park at Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, an Israeli town located 35 km (22 miles) southeast of Tel Aviv.

The new facility, which will span around 330,000 square feet (30,500 square meters), will replace Flex's existing facility in Yavne, 30 km (18.5 miles) south of Tel Aviv. Its 800 employees will relocate to the new center once fully built, and Flex announced it will hire over 200 additional workers.

Established in 1969 and headquartered in Singapore, Flex manages electronics product for aerospace and defense, automotive, computing, consumer, industrial, infrastructure, medical, clean tech and mobile. The company employs over 200,000 people in 30 countries. Flex's Israeli subsidiary was established in 1997, and the company employs around 4,000 in the country.

Flex might also be looking into acquiring the two Jerusalem facilities Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has slated for closure in 2019, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on conditions of anonymity. However, an acquisition will be possible only if the Israeli government will provide significant subsidies that will enable the profitable operation of these facilities, these people added.

Flex has been approached for comment but has yet to respond.
