In a blog post to the company website Tuesday, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich commented on Intel’s 2018 acquisition of Mobileye for $15.3 billion, saying the reason behind it was safety. “The Future of autonomous vehicles comes down to saving lives,” Mr. Krzanich said. “Safety is not new to Mobileye,” he said, adding that the company’s products are already installed in some 27 million vehicles. Mr. Krzanich said that AI systems used in autonomous vehicles will require a “formal deterministic system that sits on top of this AI and provides a safety envelope.”
