Korea Mobile Carrier KT Partners With Qwilt, Report Says

South Korean telecommunication company KT Corp, Korea’s second-biggest mobile carrier, has signed a partnership agreement with Israel-based video infrastructure startup Qwilt, Inc., as part of KT’s 5G program, Korean news site Pulse News reported Wednesday. KT also signed a separate partnership with chipmaker Intel as part of the same program, Pulse News reported. KT is set to offer full commercial 5G services in 2019.

Pulse News reported that Qwilt will collaborate with KT to construct a content delivery network on KT’s infrastructure, based on Qwilt’s open caching technology. Established in 2010 by former employees of Cisco Systems Inc. and Juniper Networks Inc., Qwilt provides software infrastructure for online video, facilitating distribution in real time around the world. The company has raised $67 million to date, according to Pitchbook data.
