Israeli Retailer Rami Levy to Launch Robot-Operated Distribution Centers

Israel’s third largest retail supermarket chain Rami Levy Hashikma Marketing 2006 Ltd. plans to use robots to run its online order service. The retailer has signed an agreement with Tel Aviv-based warehouse robotics startup CommonSense Robotics Ltd. to establish 12 distribution sites throughout Israel by July 2021, according to Rami Levy’s Thursday filing with the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.

The first two sites are scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2019. Within the sites, CommonSense Robotics’ machines will be responsible for processing, storing, and packaging items according to customer orders. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2015, CommonSense Robotics has raised $26 million to date.
