Cervical Cancer Diagnosis Startup Biop Raises $2.2 Million

Israel-based Biop develops a device for mapping the cervix and identifying cancerous and precancerous cells in epithelial tissues

Israel-based cervical cancer diagnosis startup Biop Medical Ltd. has raised $2.2 million in a funding round led by South Africa-based medical equipment company Avacare Health Group, the company announced Thursday. As part of the agreement, Avacare will distribute Biop’s device. The company said in a statement it intends to use the funding for research and development, for the expansion of its clinical trials and for completing the FDA approval process.

Founded in 2013 and based in Ramat Gan, a town in the Tel Aviv area, Biop develops a device for mapping the cervix and identifying cancerous and precancerous cells in epithelial tissues. The company has 10 employees and has raised $4.45 million to date.
