The Connected Vehicle of the Future will Require a New Architecture

"We heard a lot about sensors, cameras, connected cars, autonomous cars, but only a few people consider the technology needed to connect all of these devices together," said on Tuesday Dror Jerushalmi, CEO and co-founder of automotive chip company Valens Semiconductor Ltd. In the future, he explained, vehicles are going to have a much greater number of displays and sensors, requiring greater computing power and better mobile networks. Combined with the large amount of data being generated, the new car architecture will require new connectivity technologies, he said.

Jerushalmi spoke at a conference on innovation held jointly by Calcalist and events firm Connecting Leaders Club at the Mondial de l'Automobile auto show in Paris.

Founded in 2006, Valens manufactures semiconductor products for the distribution of uncompressed high definition (HD) multimedia content for the automotive, industrial and consumer electronics markets. The company, which employs 350 people, raised $104 in equity to date from investors including Goldman Sachs and Samsung.
