Basel, Switzerland-based life sciences company Lonza has officially opened its collaborative innovation center in Israel under its pharma and biotech division, the company announced Monday. The center, located in the Life Science Park of northern Israeli port city Haifa, will serve as the company's link to local collaborations and partnerships with academic institutes, hospitals and startups. The company first announced plans for the center in October 2017.

The 1,000-square-meter facility will focus on three main research areas: expression systems and synthetic biology, cell and gene therapies, and data acquisition and analytics. In addition to lab space, Lonza offers the option of funding and in-house expertise to partners.

The center is headed by biochemist Frida Grynspan-Gotlieb.
