Representatives from 41 countries will participate in the international song that will be held for the 64th time on 14, 16, and 18 May, at the Expo Tel Aviv convention center. Israel will be represented in the contest by theatrical vocalist Kobi Marimi, who, earlier this month was selected as the winner at the finals of music contest reality TV show Rising Star for Eurovision.
Last year, Israeli contestant Netta Barzilai won the contest in Lisbon with her song “Toy”, securing Israel the role of host this year. Israel has hosted the event twice in the past: in 1999, after Dana International’s win in Birmingham, and in 1979 after Izhar Cohen and Alphabeta won in Paris. Both times the competition was held in Jerusalem. When Israel won again in 1979 with Gali Atari and Milk and Honey, it waived its right to host the 1980 events.
