Israel-based Autotalks Ltd., a developer of vehicle-to-vehicle communications chips, has completed a successful field test in China last week, the company announced Tuesday. Autotalks said it had partnered with an unnamed Chinese technology company to execute the test, designed to verify Autotalks’ technology on a public road.

The field test included a demonstration of communication between vehicles, and between a vehicle and other entities such as traffic lights, in a real urban environment with actual traffic, Yaniv Sulkes, Autotalks’ vice president of business development and marketing for North America and Europe, told Calcalist in an email Tuesday. “The ability of a vehicle to safely communicate with a traffic light in China’s dense traffic is a key enabler for making autonomous vehicles a reality in China—and elsewhere,” Sulkes said.

Founded in 2008, Autotalks develops vehicle communication chips designed to help reduce collisions and improve mobility in autonomous vehicles. In November 2018, Calcalist reported that Autotalks was expanding into China. The company is headquartered in Israel and has additional offices in the U.S., Europe, and East Asia. It employs around 100 people.
