Nearly 50% of millennials currently work as freelancers, human resources analytics expert Hila Chalutz Ben-Gal said at Calcalist’s conference on employee experience held Tuesday in Tel Aviv.

“Thirty percent of the American workforce is built on freelance workers and Americans invest roughly 1 billion hours per week in freelance work,” she added. Chalutz Ben-Gal said she expects that by 2030, nearly half of the American workforce will work solely as freelancers.

At the Afeka Tel Aviv Academic College of Engineering, where Chalutz Ben-Gal has been a faculty member for more than six years, she is conducting research on matching workers to open positions based on an analysis of candidates’ LinkedIn profiles. As part of her research, Chalutz Ben-Gal is looking to use Linkedin data to forecast how likely a candidate is to stay at a job for a given period of time.

“We have found that people who speak two languages are much more likely to leave a particular position earlier,” she said. “This technology allows us to look broadly at planning career moves.”
