Ransomware Attacks Doubled in 2019, Says SentinelOne CEO

The number of ransomware attacks has doubled from 2018 to 2019, according to Tomer Weingarten, co-founder and CEO of cybersecurity company SentinelOne (incorporated as Sentinel Labs Inc.) Weingarten spoke Monday at Calcalist’s Cyber 2020 conference, held at shared office venture Labs at Tel Aviv’s Azrieli Sarona tower.

Globally there are more than 3 billion cloud service customers, and more than 6 billion connected devices, Weingarten said. The amount of people working in the cybersecurity realm is not growing proportionally, he said, adding that the cybersecurity industry is lacking 3 million employees.

Founded in 2013 by Weingarten and Almog Cohen, SentinelOne develops artificial intelligence-based technology for identifying abnormal behavior in enterprise networks. SentinelOne currently has over 3,500 customers and employs a team of 500 people, according to the company, The company has raised $230 million to date, according to company statements.
