London-headquartered sports media company MinuteMedia Ltd. has acquired FanSided Ltd., a network of fandom-focused sports, entertainment, and lifestyle sites, the company announced Saturday. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. This is Minute Media’s fourth acquisition in the past two years; in November, the company announced the
acquisition of former Major League Baseball (MLB) star Derek Jeter’s media company The Players' Tribune Inc.
Minute Media, originally named 90min, was founded in 2011 by CEO Asaf Peled, Yuval Larom, and Gili Beiman. It is the publisher behind several sports news outlets, including 90min, which is dedicated to soccer, DBLTAP, which focuses on e-sports, and 12up, dedicated to major U.S. sports leagues. The company lists Nike, Pepsi, Warner Brothers, and Paramount among its customers, and Goldman Sachs and Battery Ventures among its backers. The company employs some 230 people in several locations, around a third of them in its Tel Aviv research and development center.
FanSided, founded in 2007, includes around 1,500 bloggers that cover some 300 sports groups. Minute Media stated FanSided’s employees will join the company following the acquisition but it will continue operating as an independent platform.
