The dark web economy is booming. Over a billion dollars annually are fueling a market of even more stolen identities and a dumping ground for security-breach data whose cost to companies rose 14% in the last fiscal year. Whether due to individual hackers, large scale criminal enterprises, or national rogue regimes, companies that would rather ignore the dark web or pretend it doesn’t exist entirely are increasingly finding themselves caught up in this complex digital underworld, with its intersecting interests of profit and politics driving criminal opportunism and state-sponsored cyber warfare.
