Israel’s newly appointed minister of science and technology Yizhar Shai announced Sunday he has appointed Moran Bar as his ministry’s chief of staff.

Bar previously founded Geek Media Ltd., the publisher of online Israeli tech magazine GeekTime, where she served as CEO since its establishment in 2009. Ber also founded startup accelerator VentureGeeks and Israeli online restaurant database 2eat. She is a veteran of Israeli military IT unit Mamram.

Bar is Shai’s second appointment since he took office earlier this month. Last week, he announced Shai-Lee Spigelman—who headed Digital Israel, a government initiative focused on promoting the local tech industry—will serve as his ministry’s director-general.

Bar brings with her long-standing experience in the local tech industry and in-depth knowledge of the sector’s needs and the challenges it faces, Shai said in a statement.

Alongside the great urgency to find solutions to help the industry pull through the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis, Bar said in a statement, it is also crucial to work hard to establish Israel as a world leader in terms of research and innovation.
