GitLab acquires fuzz testing startup Fuzzit

Web-based DevOps company GitLab Inc. has acquired Tel Aviv-based Fuzzit, a continuous fuzz testing solution providing coverage-guided testing the former announced Thursday. This is GitLab’s first acquisition of an Israeli company.

While the companies did not disclose the financial details of the acquisition, the deal is valued at several millions of dollars, according to one person familiar with the matter who spoke with Calcalist on condition of anonymity. “Bringing the Fuzzit’s fuzzing technologies into GitLab’s security solutions will give our users an even more robust and thorough application security testing experience while enabling them to shift security left. This simultaneously simplifies their workflows and creates collaboration between development, security, and operations teams,” Sid Sijbrandij, CEO of GitLab said in a statement.

Following the acquisition, GitLab will begin expanding its operations in Israel. Fuzzit employs a small number of freelancers working remotely, and after the companies merge, Fuzzit’s managing team will also manage GitLab's operations in Israel.

“Fuzzit will give GitLab the capabilities to support phasing as part of GitLab's comprehensive and integrated solution, and will also expand its access to the Israeli marketplace and its expertise in security, thus strengthening and deepening GitLab's investment in the field as part of the DevSecOps," Eliran Mesika, GitLab’s director of corporate development said in a statement.

“Fully integrating Fuzzit will make GitLab the first security solution that provides continuous coverage-guided fuzz testing natively within the CI/CD pipeline," Yevgeny Pats, Fuzzit’s founder and CEO said in a statement. "Fuzzit's support for multiple coverage-guided fuzzers combined with its crash analysis and correlation technology will add an important capability to the DevSecOps for GitLab users.”
