“Many of the employees we hired in the last year I am only now meeting in person for the first time,” explained Rewire co-founder and CEO Guy Kashtan when speaking at Calcalist’s Tech on the Roof event. Following the lockdowns that forced employees to work from home due to the pandemic, the online banking service knew it could expand its geographical location when scouting for talent.
“A few of our first hires post-Covid were actually from East Jerusalem and Nazareth,” he continued. “For the first time we didn’t have them have to come to the office, so it increased our diversity in the team. Forty percent of our employees come from different countries and this allows us to hire more people from diverse backgrounds and who are not necessarily living in Tel Aviv.” Rewire, which also has an office in the Netherlands, adopted the same strategy there, too. Today, being in Amsterdam specifically isn’t a requirement anymore like it was pre-Covid-19. “We are a bit more scattered than before,” Kashtan confirmed.
