“We have a lot of empathy for the restaurants and we know it is difficult and challenging all the time, but mostly during Covid,” said Nurit Shaked, Israel country manager for 10bis in an interview with CTech during Calcalist’s E-commerce 360 conference last week. “We have more than 8,000 restaurants nationwide, the best variety in Israel with most of the restaurants doing the deliveries by themselves. We have a delivery company that is offering delivery services to restaurants that do not have a logistic solution, so we expanded this solution, we started with six areas pre-covid, we now have 13 areas and over 50 locations.
“We also donated more than 300,000 euro to the departments of Covid in the hospitals,” Shaked said, describing 10bis’ efforts to help struggling restaurants during the coronavirus pandemic. “It was not a donation of money, it was an allowance to order from the restaurants in order for the money to go into the restaurants.”
Delivery services, in general, and food delivery, in particular, saw a high spike in demand during 2020. Social distancing and other covid regulations banned dining in restaurants and kept people at home, which forced companies such as 10bis to make rapid adjustments. “Since Covid, we did see a crazy increase in demand because people were at home, quarantined or in lockdown," Shaked said. “It was challenging, I can tell you that in the first few weeks everybody in the company was joining in to support all the challenges we worked until midnight every day because the demand was really crazy, each time in each phase it became bigger and bigger, we thought we solved it and it became bigger.
“We doubled our customer support team and the sales team in order to support the restaurants, in order to support the customers, and I think right now it has stabilized, but demand did not decrease while everything was open we still have the big numbers.”
Shaked also noticed the pandemic forced behavioral changes on the market’s high end, introducing delivery service to those who were adamant against it. “Lots of chef’s restaurants or trendy restaurants, that it was a big no-no for them before to have delivery, who said their product and menu did not fit delivery joined the platform,” Shaked explained.
“I have been with 10bis since 2002, and we are consistently growing, we have a lot of new things in the pipeline new initiatives, innovation is part of our world and we reinvented ourselves in the Covid era for corporates, for restaurants for consumers and we will keep on doing that and keep on growing,” Shaked concluded.
