“The attackers are always a step before us,” warns Datto GM

“We should assume that everything we start to use is something that someone else can leverage in order to attack us,” said Liron Barak, General Manager at Datto Cyber Security Center in Tel Aviv. Barak joined the organization after it purchased her first company, BitDam, which specialized in providing solutions for organizations to protect them against cyberattacks.

“The attackers are always a step before us,” she continued. “They can always find those holes and we cannot expect that. So the best way to handle those situations is to find those solutions that are able to detect unknown threats and not looking for specific patterns and behaviors that they saw in the past already.”

According to Barak, the pandemic and moving to remote work helped accelerate the savviness of users who can now recognize potential threats. “I think the awareness around that is relatively higher recently, unlike it was before.”
