“There’s a lot of interest for companies to go public - most likely next year”

In a fireside chat at Calcalist’s Mind the Tech 2022 Conference in New York, Eklavya Saraf, Global Head of SPAC and Managing Director of New Listings, Nasdaq, and Asaf Glas, VP Clients at IBI Capital, discussed tech companies and IPOs today and where things are headed

“2021 was an unusual year,” said Asaf Glas, VP Clients at IBI Capital. “There was a boom that began to disconnect with reality, which of course could not last forever. In 2021, some 1055 companies went public compared to an annual average of 240 in the preceding decade. Now the IPO boom has gone down, the interest rate has begun to rise, the market shifted from growth to profit, and in general the company value was cut. This was just a return to value.”

Glas and Eklavya Saraf, Global Head of SPAC and Managing Director of New Listings, Nasdaq, were participating in a fireside chat moderated by Calcalist reporter Sophie Shulman, entitled “Go Big or Go Home: The Day After the Great IPO Rush.”

When asked where things stand for IPOs now, Saraf said, “There’s a lot of interest for companies to go public - most likely next year. There are going to be IPOs, it's just that the market needs to find its stability.”
