“We are definitely seeing a lot of changes,” said Tamara Direktor, Managing Partner at The YOLO Fund speaking to CTech at Fintech 2023. “First we see the rates going up so we see it reflected in the economy, reflecting in the markets, and in the valuations. So, you see it also comes up and goes up to the secondary market.”

The YOLO Fund is connected to the Elephant secondary market platform and is a private equity fund for institutional and qualified investors that purchase shares of selected private late-stage tech companies.

“We see only the AI companies going up,” she continued. “We see that in the Nasdaq, they’re up 35% from the beginning of the year, definitely AI companies. We are also seeing this in the private markets that AI companies are the focus. The rest of the companies we see don’t go to primaries right now, don’t go to IPOs, and mainly focus on their runway.”

According to Direktor, companies today are mainly focusing on their revenues and not trying to recruit any funds or equities. “Definitely we have seen more layoffs, companies are focusing on their technlogy, focusing not so much on growth but sustaining and extending.”
