Exelerate Smart Traffic prepares to tackle different regulatory hurdles in USA, Europe

Exelerate Smart Traffic, which is a company that deals with smart management and control of intersections in the city, already operates in 30% of the Israeli market. It has paying customers, a working product, and has already expanded overseas. However, its VP Business Development David Gillo shares that expanding to Europe vs. the USA present very different challenges.

“Because there are 50 states, people think the USA is one coherent country but it's not,” he told CTech at Calcalist and LeumiTech’s Early on the Spot conference. “Each state has its own regulatory structure and also it has different needs. You can't think that Alabama is like Vermont or Missouri - everyone has their own requirements and everyone wants to go faster to where they want to go.”

Europe, he argues, is a bit more cohesive for companies like Exelerate to expand into, notably because of the European Union. “Standards are different and the requirements are a little bit more cohesive,” he added. “But again, like in any country, Poland is not like Germany which is not like Italy. International work is of course very diverse.”
