Speaking to CTech at Mind the Tech London 2025, Dr. Michael Bahar explained how technology and the AI revolution are impacting the field of rehabilitation. Bahar is Head of the Rehabilitation Department at Beilinson, an Israeli hospital and the country’s third largest medical center, which also serves as a major trauma center.

“When thinking about AI and rehabilitation, it's very exciting, because we can use the power of AI and use the technology, AI technology in order to facilitate the way that we work with the patients,” he said.

He continued: “One of the major parts that we need to do in rehabilitation is to assess the impairment of the patient… we can do it in the physical level, and we can do it in the emotional level, and we can do it in the cognitive part of the assessment.” He added that AI can help free up therapists’ time by streamlining assessments, allowing them to focus more on treatment.

Bahar also elaborated on the opening of Beilinson’s new rehabilitation facility this December, which he described as “a huge step for Beilinson,” and its capacity to expand care with multidisciplinary programs for patients, such as those with multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.

“We're going to incorporate all the most advanced rehabilitation technology on the market,” he said. Looking ahead, he shared the vision of how the center could act as a “sandbox” for biotech startups to test and refine new rehabilitation technologies directly with patients.
