OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, has reportedly doubled its revenue in the first seven months of the year, reaching an annualized run rate of $12 billion, according to The Information, which cited a source familiar with the company’s financials.

The Microsoft-backed AI company is now generating approximately $1 billion per month, driven by strong adoption of its ChatGPT products across both consumer and enterprise segments. OpenAI declined to comment on the report.

The report also revealed that ChatGPT now has around 700 million weekly active users, underscoring its central role in shaping mainstream AI usage.

However, growth comes at a cost. OpenAI has increased its projected cash burn for 2025 to $8 billion, up from a previous estimate of $7 billion earlier this year.

To support its rapid expansion, OpenAI is lining up funding for the second half of a $30 billion capital raise, with The Information reporting that investors including Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management are each committing hundreds of millions of dollars to the round.
