Karin Eibschitz Segal, VP at Intel, added that “Intel's uniqueness in AI is that it is one of the only companies in the world that has a full portfolio—meaning the ability to develop end-to-end solutions."

"We call this period the golden age of the chip industry. Silicon has become as important and central as oil. There is no consumer product that does not require silicon," said Karin Eibschitz Segal, Vice President, Design Engineering Group, at Intel, General Manager of Intel Validation Engineering and General Manager of Intel Israel Development Center. Speaking at the Calcalist and Mizrahi Tefahot Growth Conference, Eibschitz Segal added: "The market value of the chip industry in 2022 was about $574 billion, and the forecast is that by 2030 it will reach a trillion dollars. This is tremendous growth, and we see it in all sectors," she added.

That tremendous growth is at the core of Intel's global strategy, claims Eibschitz Segal. "We are in the process of a significant strategic transformation, transitioning from self-only manufacturing to manufacturing and developing for other companies. Today, there are only three companies in the entire world that manufacture silicon chips with the most advanced technology, two of them in Asia. The fact that Intel is the only Western company is an opportunity, especially in light of exposure to crises like the coronavirus and other geopolitical challenges that disrupt supply chains."

Establishing a leading set of manufacturing services and joint development of chips for others is one part of the company's strategy. Eibschitz Segal presented the broad strategy: "to continue being technological leaders in product development for data centers, cloud, personal computers, and more, strengthening Intel's internal factory network, and manufacturing chips for Intel through external parties."

According to Eibschitz Segal, "Our strategy also provides an important response to the revolution that we all feel in our daily lives—the artificial intelligence revolution. We all see how it has changed our lives in every field: health, finance, entertainment. Intel's uniqueness in this field is that it is one of the only companies in the world that has a full portfolio—meaning the ability to develop end-to-end solutions—from the cloud to manufacturing, to develop AI solutions."

Eibschitz Segal mentioned two specific products developed in Israel: the AI accelerator named Gaudi 3, and the Lunar Lake, "which is a personal computer product that brings the AI revolution into personal computing," Eibschitz Segal explained. "Today, almost everything that requires intelligence goes to the cloud and back. But there are many applications that you would prefer to use on a computer without going to the cloud and back, for reasons of speed and maintaining privacy. That is why we see a significant trend today, with estimates that by 2028 about 80% of the personal computer market will be dominated by AIPC (Artificial Intelligence Personal Computers). This will affect accessibility, productivity, gaming, image and video search and editing, text-to-image, etc."

That's why, Eibschitz Segal says, "We at Intel Israel, both in the development centers and in the manufacturing centers, are very central, vital, and leaders in Intel's global strategy. We started 50 years ago with five employees, and today we have several development centers and a large manufacturing center. We also employ the largest number of high-tech workers in Arab society."
