“Covid-19 was a huge impetus for health IT” in the UK during the pandemic

“Here in the UK where I am based, Covid-19 was a huge impetus for health IT,” explained Dr. Anna Bayes, UK Medical Director at Allscripts, the parent company of Israeli-founded dbMotion. “We had quite a start-stop type of process for implementing new technology in terms of electronic patient records and joining them up here in the UK market. But Covid-19 galvanized and accelerated this. We've never seen such a strong pull from the clinicians.”

According to Dr. Bayes, dbMotion first started “making waves” in the early 2000s for its ability to join up discreet electronic patient records of different types and manage that type of clinician data. It's the type of infrastructure that would help Startup Nation with its vaccination rollout to combat a pandemic nearly two decades later.

“In the past, we were almost pushing \[clinicians\] to take our systems because they felt it would slow them down and they didn't want to change the way they worked. But with Covid-19, they clearly and quickly saw the benefits,” Dr.Bayes added.
