“It's different when computers drive a vehicle in California versus here in Tel Aviv”
Yoav Levy, Co-Founder and CEO at Upstream Security, predicts when the streets of Tel Aviv will see autonomous vehicles
“The technology is ready for specific areas. It's different when you drive, or when the computers drive, a vehicle in California versus here in Tel Aviv which is a big chaos,” explained Yoav Levy, Co-Founder and CEO at Upstream Security, a company that has built a cloud-based cybersecurity data management and data analytics platform for connected vehicles. “It's also a matter of culture. How do you drive? How polite are you on the road? The complexity depends on the region you are operating the autonomous vehicles.”
While Levy predicts California might see fully autonomous vehicles sharing the streets with humans in 2-3 years, that estimate is less generous for Tel Aviv. “In Israel, I guess it will take more time,” he continued. “They need to learn the cultural aspects of how you drive here. I'm sure they will start with separate lines for autonomous vehicles before it's going to be a mix between normal vehicles and autonomous vehicles.”
