U.S. and Israel to Form a Joint Team to Enforce Tech-Related Sanctions on Iran

In May, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his withdrawal from the nuclear agreement signed with Iran in July 2015, and the renewal of U.S.-imposed economic sanctions on the country

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon agreed to form a joint expert tech team focused on enforcing tech-related economic sanctions on Iran, the Israeli Finance Ministry announced Wednesday. Mnuchin and Kahlon discussed the issue of the economic embargo on Iran during a Tuesday meeting in Washington, D.C., their fourth meeting in the past year.

In its announcement, Israel’s Finance Ministry said that Mnuchin and Kahlon also discussed economic collaboration and taxation policies between the countries. The two already addressed the issue of the U.S. sanctions on Iran during a meeting in Jerusalem in May, in which Mnuchin and Kahlon also agreed to collaborate on issues of money laundering and terror financing through a joint Israel-U.S. forum.

“The economic sanctions placed on Iran by the U.S. are proving themselves,” Kahlon said in the statement. “The joint team we created will have a key role in tightening the sanctions on Iran.”
