Payroll Management Startup Papaya Global Wins Callcalist’s Startup Competition
The competition’s finals were held Monday at Calcalist’s eighth annual digital and mobile conference
Payroll management startup Papaya Global Ltd. won Calcalist’s startup competition held Monday. The competition took place at Calcalist’s eighth annual digital and mobile conference INSPIRE Digital@Mobile, held in Tel Aviv in collaboration with Bank Hapoalim. This year’s conference focused on the interface between the physical and the digital worlds, and on the ways in which technology is changing human interactions, social fabrics, and the human psyche.

Papaya Global provides support services for recruiting and hiring workers remotely and develops a single system that automates payroll processing, labor law compliance, and other tasks generally handled by human resource departments. The company has raised $5.5 million to date, according to Pitchbook data.
Founded in 2016, Papaya Global is headquartered in Tel Aviv and has additional offices in New York, China, and Australia. Papaya reports 150 clients globally, including Johnson & Johnson, Facebook, and General Electric. The company employs 25 people and provides its service in more than 70 countries, according to company statements.
As the winner of Calcalist’s startup competition, Papaya Global won a spot at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in February. Other prizes include 20 hours of mentorship provided by Israel-based law firm Shibolet & Co.; counseling provided by the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute (IEI); a one-year free membership at the Israeli government agency; an ad campaign on Calcalist’s platforms worth NIS 50,000 (approximately $13,500), and favourable banking terms from Bank Hapoalim.
ReFundit Ltd., which developed a mobile solution that allows tourists to receive VAT refunds on purchases abroad, was awarded second place. Glassbox Digital UK Ltd., which helps to track the user's activity accurately and offer solutions to improve the user experience, won third place.Related stories
Other finalists included Bitemojo (Culinary Ventures Ltd.), Bringoz Technologies Ltd. 2bPrecise LLC; Mantis Vision Ltd.; Seedo (Eroll Grow Tech Ltd.); and Anima-EY (Anima - Know Yourself Company Ltd.).
Judges in the competition included Yossi Vinitsky, the high-tech director at Bank Hapoalim, and Miki Admon, director of the high-tech department at the Israel Export Institute.
