After raising $34M, Retrain.ai shuts down and puts its AI platform up for sale

Founded by Kaltura’s Shay David, the HR-focused AI startup has laid off 20 employees and is now looking for an acquirer.

Retrain.ai, founded by Kaltura co-founder Dr. Shay David, has shut down its operations and laid off 20 employees. It is now seeking a buyer for its technology, Calcalist has learned.

The company was established in 2020 by Dr. Shay David; Isabelle Bichler-Eliasaf, who served as COO, after having previously co-founded an HR startup, and Avi Simon, the CTO, who in the past served as Chief Data Officer of the Israel Defense Forces and the CIO and CTO of the Israeli military intelligence corps, where he founded and commanded a number of R&D units specializing in AI-based intelligence.

Retrain developed an AI-based employee management platform that can analyze millions of data points to understand the supply and demand of skill sets depending on a changing labor market. It can quantify talent gaps and recommend internal mobility, transition plans, and personalized training to invest in an organization’s existing workforce.
